Invite Introspection, Ignite Imagination

One of the things I appreciate most about libraries is the way they allow all of us to hold and acknowledge the inherent complexity of experience—past and future, infrastructure and inspiration, the deeply local and the wildly global. Our 2023 Tulane University Libraries Annual Report captures that spirit. It’s a snapshot of a system in motion: growing, experimenting, recalibrating, and listening.

There’s a lot to be proud of in these pages. We’ve made strategic investments in digital infrastructure, strengthened our distinct collections, and expanded support for researchers across disciplines. We’ve increased the visibility and usability of our spaces, extended our partnerships across campus and into the community, and begun to rethink how we show up—literally and figuratively—for students, scholars, and the city we call home.

This year’s report also reflects the early work of our Kaleidoscope vision, including some of the groundwork we’re laying for long-term impact. From launching a Digital Preservation Taskforce to deepening our support for Latin American Studies and open access publishing, we’re doing the hard, necessary, sometimes invisible work of modernizing the library while staying true to its core: access, memory, learning, and care.

Annual reports can sometimes feel like checklists, but to me, this one reads more like a foundation—solid enough to build on, open enough to evolve.
